Aberrant Ceramics is the artwork of Aaron Nosheny, potter and ceramic artist based in Tucson, Arizona. Self-taught and neurodivergent, he has worked in stoneware clay since 2004. He makes non-traditional forms in a medium built on tradition, exploring the overlap between wonder and revulsion. Subject matter includes sympathetic monsters, insects, opossums, fast food mascots, and Halloween kitsch.
I am in love with my medium. I love the process of frantically birthing clay monstrosities, subjecting them to an epic trial by fire, and sending them out into the world.

Troll Mini
This was made in 2012 as a Dungeons & Dragons mini. I think it was meant to be an orc, but I'm going with troll for now.

All-Purpose Monster Miniatures
These are two all-purpose monster miniatures for use in a Dungeons & Dragons game. I don't have any games going on currently, so I guess these will have to wait. I made them a few weeks ago. I was working at the pottery studio on a Saturday night when suddenly a large, noisy group of people turned up for a "clay party." They were weekend revelers and I was there to work. I felt trapped in the room where I was working. While I waiting for the pot I was making to dry, I made these bold artistic statements.

Earth Elementals
Last week, I started another season of D&D Encounters: The Elder Elemental Eye. I'm finding myself less enthusiastic about making miniatures. There are a few interesting elemental creatures I'm planning on producing, but I'd rather concentrate on other projects at this point.
Here are two earth elementals for tonight's game. I'll probably glaze them at some point, but I think the natural clay color suits them just as well.

Soryth the Dream Queen
Soryth is the big boss from this past season of D&D Encounters, Beyond the Crystal Cave. She's a hag who tries to steal the souls of several pairs of innocent young interspecies (human-elf) lovers. My group finished tonight, two weeks off schedule. Soryth has the ability to cause her opponents to attack each other, but most of the players in my group had crappy basic melee and ranged attacks and weren't able to do much damage to each other.

Kalbon the Cambion Devil
This is my miniature of Kalbon, a Cambion devil and one of the main villains in Beyond the Crystal Cave. Actually, Kalbon is the consort of the main villain, the hag Soryth.
The mini is off model for a cambion devil, but I wanted to use the ape mold for the face. It makes him seem more bestial and vicious than a more humanoid design would.

Verbeeg Miniatures
These are Verbeegs, green-skinned fey giants for use as miniatures in Beyond the Crystal Cave. The story involves a young interracial (Human and Elf) couple that is drawn into onto a magical island in the Feywild (the world of the faeries that lies parallel to what passes for the real world in the game). An evil Hag and her infernal consort bring the couple to the island in an attempt to gain control of the land, but are partially thwarted by a variety of fey creatures. One of these is a Verbeeg named Ragnar. The human male, Orlando, goes missing, and Ragnar sends his thuggish cousin Basal after Orlando, intending to slay him to keep him out of the hag's clutches. It's a delightfully convoluted story.

This was the first attempt and it came through the kiln missing most of one arm.

Note that Verbeeg can be used in a variety of clever phrases such as "Verbeeg Ego" or "Verbeeg Dilemma" or, in a slightly less clever example, "Verbeeg Miniature."

The Three Bears
Young Unicorns
This week's session of D&D Encounters was called "The Test." The adventurers had to choose between befriending one of two camps of fey creatures and in either case, the other camp ended up as the adversaries. If the players chose to befriend the satyrs and wilden in the Green Fey camp, they were asked to prank the hamadryad and pixies in the Summer Fey camp by stealing their unicorns. My players didn't pick that possibility but here are the unicorns anyway.

Wildens
Wildens are new additions to the D&D bestiary. They're meant to be fey (fairy) creatures that emerged from the Feywild to combat the increasing Far Realm menace. In the context of Beyond the Crystal Cave, they're getting drunk with a gang of satyrs.

I attempted to form the faces myself instead of using a mold and this one is my favorite.

Extra Mudmen
The Encounter with the mudmen in Beyond the Crystal Cave was last week, but here are three extra mudmen.

The YouTube video of the Dragon's Lair Mudmen level from my first Mudmen post has disappeared. I uploaded one myself (and without the annoying tutorial). I fixed the original post, but here's the video again.
Here is my favorite death scene from the Mudmen level.
