Aberrant Ceramics is the artwork of Aaron Nosheny, potter and ceramic artist based in Tucson, Arizona. Self-taught and neurodivergent, he has worked in stoneware clay since 2004. He makes non-traditional forms in a medium built on tradition, exploring the overlap between wonder and revulsion. Subject matter includes sympathetic monsters, insects, opossums, fast food mascots, and Halloween kitsch.

I am in love with my medium. I love the process of frantically birthing clay monstrosities, subjecting them to an epic trial by fire, and sending them out into the world.

Rhinoceros-Headed Phallic Sculpture

This is a phallic sculpture with a rhinoceros head.  This piece cracked in the kiln but I glazed it anyway.  It also has a small compartment to hold ketchup or for use as an ashtray.

Axolotl Sculpture

This is a sculpture of an axolotl, a Mexican salamander which spends its whole life in its larval form.

Hallucigenia Sculpture

I've attempted many hallucigenia before, but always upside down, with the spikes pointing down and the legs pointing up, in the way that it was originally envisioned.  Here is a hallucigenia in the correct up-down orientation.  I'm still not sure about the front-back orientation.

Clay Americas

A few years ago I made a series of objects using press molds and a cookie cutter shaped like the continental United States.  (Here and here).  These are new ones.  The molds include figures from a nativity scene, an alien fruit from a Star Trek action figure, clock numbers, and Halloween decorations.

Row of Eyes

Angel With Wings

I had a family member request to make an angel with wings.  She specified "Not the Angel of Death" but that's exactly how it came out.

Flags of the World Cannabis Leaves Part 5

I wanted to try the flag of the UK on a Cannabis leaf and my conclusion is that the Union Jack doesn't fit on a Cannabis leaf very well.
