Aberrant Ceramics is the artwork of Aaron Nosheny, potter and ceramic artist based in Tucson, Arizona. Self-taught and neurodivergent, he has worked in stoneware clay since 2004. He makes non-traditional forms in a medium built on tradition, exploring the overlap between wonder and revulsion. Subject matter includes sympathetic monsters, insects, opossums, fast food mascots, and Halloween kitsch.
I am in love with my medium. I love the process of frantically birthing clay monstrosities, subjecting them to an epic trial by fire, and sending them out into the world.

January 2017 Bisque Firing
I had a productive 2016, but a lot of what I produced were flat objects for the Tarot deck. These could be fired right away in the studio bisque firings while larger and more delicate pieces had to accumulate on my shelf. Some of these go back to June.
The only casualty was the Eryops sculpture, which was already broken when I loaded it. I had attempted a repair, but I'm not surprised that it didn't work.

Nirvana Babies for Magus Tarot Card
I added a few lines of tan acrylic paint and I like this version slightly better.
These are modeled after the baby on the cover of Nirvana's Nevermind album. The top one was traced and the bottom was drawn without tracing and neither one captures the effect I was hoping for.
Whirligig Beetle Pot WIP
This would be the space where I would write something positive about the potential of the new year, if I had anything positive to write. It has a ring of wacky whirligig beetles on the front and a few whirligig beetle larvae on the back.
